John Lindert Elected President of Michigan Section PGA Print E-mail

Michigan Section PGAEAST LANSING – The Country Club of Lansing's John Lindert has been elected President of the Michigan Section of the PGA of America by the organization's members.

Lindert, a member of The PGA of America since 1983, was elected by his peers during the Michigan Section PGA’s Annual Meeting, held Oct. 12, 2009, at East Lansing’s Eagle Eye Golf Club. Lindert has been Director of Golf at Country Club of Lansing since 2007.

Golf World Readers Select Michigan and its Courses Among the Best Print E-mail

Top-ranked Forest Dunes Golf ClubLANSING, Mich. – The readers of Golf World magazine have heaped high praise upon the state of Michigan, ranking it as the country's 11th best golf destination and placing seven of the state's courses among the Top 50 Public Facilities in the publication's second annual "Readers Choice Awards."

Michigan also has four resorts and two private courses that are ranked in their respective Top 50.

LPGA Tour's Corning Classic to Return in 2010 Print E-mail

Paula Creamer is past champion of the Corning ClassicThe LPGA Tour and the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic Presented by Kroger jointly announced a one-year extension to stage the event in 2010, continuing a tradition that dates back more than two decades.

"We are pleased to return to the Toledo area for the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, a staple on the LPGA Tour for 25 years," said Marty Evans, acting LPGA commissioner. "The fans in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan embrace our players and appreciate the impressive level of golf and sports entertainment that they provide the community and the tournament sponsors. We appreciate the commitment of the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic and its sponsors, which has produced so many great winners over the years, counting Hall of Famers as well as up-and-comers on its list of champions."

Michigan PGA Championship Back in Lansing Print E-mail

Michigan PGAEAST LANSING, MI – Scott Hebert will attempt to win his 4th consecutive Michigan PGA Championship at the Hawk Hollow Properties in East Lansing from August 24th through the 26th. Hebert has been the only winner since the event has been played on the Eagle Eye and Hawk Hollow golf courses starting in 2006.

“Scott is just a tremendous player,” Michigan PGA Executive Director, Kevin Helm said. “He’s been on quite a run winning the PGA National Championship in 2008 and qualifying for last weeks PGA Championship at Hazeltine Golf Club. Hebert is the 41-year old Golf Professional at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. Last month he won his first Boyne Tournament of Champions event after finishing in second place 5-times since 1999. He later missed the cut at the Buick Open last month by one stroke.

Kueny Will Defend at GAM Women's Championship Print E-mail

Laura KuenyBattle Creek Country Club in Battle Creek is celebrating its 90th birthday by hosting the GAM Women’s Championship. Battle Creek Country Club is proud of its long history, having been founded in 1919, and equally proud of its Willie Park, Jr. designed golf course. The course will play around 6000 yards for the GAM’s premier championship for its women members.

The championship consists of 36 holes of stroke play over two days – August 17 and 18. Laura Kueny, Whitehall, the 2008 GAM Women’s Champion, will be back to defend her title. In 2008 as a member of the Michigan State University golf team she won the GAM Women's title at the University of Michigan Golf Course. Kueny, commenting on that, said, "It's a good feeling to dominate the home course of your rival."
