THOMPSONVILLE - Crystal Mountain Director of Junior Instruction and Development, Adam Schriber is giving high marks to his prized pupils after a third place finish by Anthony Kim on the PGA Tour and a second place finish by Morgan Pressel on the LPGA Tour over the weekend.
After shooting a record round of 62 during the first round of the AT&T National at Congressional on Thursday, Anthony Kim found himself in the final pairing with the tournament host, Tiger Woods on Sunday. While Woods went on to take his 68th career victory, Kim finished in third, his best finish since the Mercedes Championship in January. Schriber and Kim have been spending more time together since just prior to the U.S. Open at Bethpage.

LINDEN - Self-described pessimist Tom Werkmeister is finally seeing the glass as half full. The 41-year-old from Kentwood defeated University of Michigan sophomore Matt Thompson 3 & 2 to win the GAM Michigan Amateur at Spring Meadows Country Club on Saturday.
"I am really quite shocked," said Werkmeister. "I've always been kind of a pessimistic person. I never thought I could win this tournament, but here I am."

LINDEN - With the opportunity to compete in intense 90 degree weather for two rounds of stroke play, the players took to the 6,584 yard, par-71 Spring Meadows Country Club with hopes of advancing to match play at the 98th Michigan Amateur Championship.
The co-leader, Joseph Juszczyk (Dearborn Hts) shot 66-66 -132 to break the current record set in 2003 by Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon) at Belvedere Golf Club. A senior golfer at Wayne State University, Juszczyk, said of wining medalist honors and having his name engraved on the Chuck Kocsis Medalist Trophy, "It would mean a lot, I know how hard it is to win."

FARMINGTON HILLS – The 98th Michigan Amateur Championship, sponsored by Osprey Recreational Properties, will be contested on the lush fairways of Linden’s Spring Meadows Country Club June 23-27. For the first time in the history of the event, the Michigan Amateur will be held at Spring Meadows Country Club (par 71, 6,854 yards).
The return of the Michigan Amateur to the Flint area for the first time since 2001 has helped to attract one of the biggest fields in Michigan Amateur history. The golfer who is left on Saturday, June 27 as the 2009 Michigan Amateur Champion will have earned his name on the prestigious Staghorn trophy by outlasting the other 788 competitors in the 2009 Michigan Amateur Championship, making this the 5th largest field ever.
