Golf Digest’s “America's 100 Greatest” rankings, featured in the magazine's May 2005 issue, pegged the Arthur Hills Michigan Golf Trail as the nation’s top conglomeration of public golf courses.

Two Arthur Hills Michigan Golf Trail venues were named to Golf Digest’s list of “100 Greatest Public Courses”; Bay Harbor Golf Club (Links/Quarry) in Petoskey was listed as #35 and Red Hawk Golf Club in East Tawas which was listed as #66. No other public golfing trail featured more than one. In terms of quality, the Arthur Hills Michigan Golf Trail stands alone.

“As a firm, we don’t emphasize rankings. We’re more concerned with building the best possible golf course a particular piece of property will yield,” says Arthur Hills, founder and principal of Toledo, Ohio-based Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates. “However, we appreciate that our clients and the golfers who play their courses pay close attention to such matters, and it's gratifying to see that Golf Digest raters see the quality in our work.”

To mark nearly 40 years of golfing collaboration, Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates partnered in 2004 with 11 upscale public-access courses in Michigan to create the Arthur Hills Michigan Golf Trail. Call it a hit list. Call it an 11-day, dream itinerary. Whatever you call it, the Hills Trail is clearly one of the country's finest, most diverse golfing experiences.

The Trail includes: Bay Harbor Golf Club in Petoskey, The Arthur Hills Course at Boyne Highlands in Boyne Falls, Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills, Forest Akers Golf Club in Lansing, HawksHead in South Haven, Lakes of Taylor Golf Course in Taylor, Lyon Oaks Golf Club in Wixom, Pheasant Run Golf Club in Canton, Red Hawk Golf Club in East Tawas, Taylor Meadows Golf Course in Taylor and Thoroughbred Golf Club at the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury.

All 11 courses are rated three and half stars or better (out of five) according to Golf Digest's Places to Play ranking. All 11 represent the timeless, traditional design style that has made Arthur Hills a household name. What's more, spread around the state as they are - on the lakeshore, in the forested highlands, through pristine meadows and heathlands - all 11 Trail stops effectively reflect the extraordinary diversity of Michigan golf.
